Muckers Compete at Pahranagat Valley Invite

The Tonopah Muckers wrestling team competed at the Pahranagat Valley Invitational (2A thru 4A schools) recently.  The team champions were Boulder City High School. 

Individual results

Tanner Otteson, 138lbs. Finished 4-1.  3rd place with his  only loss to former State Champion Derek Mathews  of Lincoln County.  Tanner lost to him 18-13.
Kevin Pope, 182 lbs. 2-2. 4th place.
Koa Elliott, 160 lbs. 2-2.  5th place.
Matt Melendez, 138lbs.  2-2.  5th place.
Austin Leach, 106 lbs. 0-2.

Coaches Comments: “Tough tournament, the Muckers  faced many large schools from Las Vegas in this tournament. They Wrestled well, good for them to face tough competition.”

The Muckers will be at Spring Creek Invitational this week.

The 2015-2016 Tonopah High School Wrestling team has announced is roster.  Mucker wrestling is under the direction of Head Coach Duffy Otteson.  Coach Otteson is set to begin his 5th season.  The Muckers line up features a nice blend of youth and experience with top athletes returning from a successful 2014-2015 season.  Top returners include, Junior Tanner Otteson, Sernior Tristan Otteson, Senior. Kekoa Elliot, and Senior Jamaree Earl.

Division III Wrestling Southern League Championships in Lincoln Nevada (Saturday 2-7-15)
Placing in the top 4 for Tonopah and advancing to the State Championships are:
Soph. 132 lbs. Tanner Otteson – 2nd place (32-10 record for the season) **Took 3rd at The State Championships last season 109 lbs.
Senior 195 lbs. Jeb Ayers – 3rd place
Senior 285 lbs. Kyle Dennis – 2nd placeThe State meet will be held in Winnemucca.
Others wrestling at state for Tonopah but not advancing to the state Championships were:
Kade Bunker 126 lbs.  – 5th place
Jabe Jones  170 lbs. – 7th Place
Ian Guthridge 182 lbs.  – 6th place
Tonopah finish 8th place as a Team with a total of 57 team points.
State Championships are in Winnemucca, NV this Friday and Saturday  February 13th and 14th .  Hosted by Lowry High School at the Winnemucca Indoor Event Center/Complex.
Coach Duffy Otteson said, “I am very proud of these young men. This is a tough sport and I am happy with of all the hard work they put in throughout the year. We will continue to work hard with the boys who have advanced to State and hopefully we can bring home some state medals. This is a great group of young men.“
