Monday Night Volleyball

Mammoth and Lone Pine win

Mammoth high School Volleyball is 3-0 in Desert Mountain league play, Lone Pine high school volleyball is also 3-0 in DML play. The two will tangle Wednesday in Lone Pine. Both teams won DML match-ups Monday setting up Wednesday’s big showdown.

Mammoth vs. Boron

Mammoth Varsity won 25-18, 12-25, 25-18, 25-15.
Setter McKenna Smith had 35 assists and 9 aces.
Outside hitter Taylor Sanders had 17 kills.
Outside hitter Kira Shultz had 5 aces and 5 digs.
Middle blocker Callie Mowat had 3 aces, 9 kills and 9 blocks.
Middle blocker Tatum Sandvigen had 3 aces, 3 kills and 6 blocks.
Opposite hitter Zenya Simeon added 3 kills and 2 assists.

“Not our best effort tonight but good enough for a solid win against a very scrappy Boron squad.”

Lone Pine vs. Vasquez

The Lady Eagle Volleyball team began a busy DML home stand on Monday hosting the Vasquez Mustangs from Action and got the win 25-14, 20-25, 25-17, 25-16. With the victory Lone Pine upped its DML record to 3-0, 7-5-2 overall.

Outside Hitter Abby Southey, 23/26 Serving, 1 Ace, 5 Kills, 9 Digs.
Opposite Hitter Lena Cariou, 16/17 Serving, 3 Aces, 7 Kills, 14 Digs.
Middle Hitter Taylor Corona, 8 Kills, and 2 Blocks.
Outside Hitter Katelyn Button, 7/7 Serving, 3 Kills, 6 Digs.
Libero Lacie Jones, 10/10 Serving, 2 Aces, 23 Digs.

The Lone Pine JV defeated Vasquez 25-23, 26-24. The JV are now 2-0 DML, 4-1 overall. Individual stats:

It’s Game Day Volleyball Fans

Bishop Union hosts Lone Pine

A battle of the Owens Valley’s top volleyball teams is set for this afternoon.  Bishop Union will host Lone Pine at Gus Klekas gymnasium.  JV action will begin at 4pm, with the Varsity dual to follow.  Long time Lone Pine Head Coach Mel Joseph leads the Golden Eagles into a battle with Coach Linda Frigerio’s Broncos.

Lone Pine opened the 2015 season with a strong victory over Kern Valley while the Broncos opened the season with a strong showing at the Yerington tournament.  The Broncos finished 3rd in the Lions tourney.

After Today’s (Wednesday, Sept 9th) clash both Bishop Union and Lone Pine will compete in the Mammoth Tournament this Friday and Saturday.

Lone Pine Volleyball downs Kern Valley

Lone Pine Volleyball Starts Strong

The Lone Pine high school volleyball program opened the 2015 season with a pair of wins over Kern Valley.  The Golden Eagle Varsity and Junior Varsity protected their home court notching wins over High Desert League opponent Kern Valley.

At the Varsity level Lone Pine won in four games, dropping game one 25-22, then reeling off three straight wins 25-21, 25-23, and 25-18.  Coach Mel Joseph’s comments, “After two weeks of intense practice it was nice to get on the court and play (against a worthy opponent), we played well at times and not so well at other times. As this team gains confidence and experience we will challenge any opponent we face.” As a team Lone Pine served 91% with 14 aces and hammered 32 kills. “Using this opening match as a stepping stone, we now know where the weaknesses lie and the area(s) of fundamentals that still need attention. As a coach I was very happy with the team attitude and their effort to battle”.
