Mammoth High School Graduate Matt Graef is a sophomore linebacker at Illinois College, a NCAA division III school in Jacksonville Illinois.  The Blueboys compete in the Midwest Conference.  This week the Midwest Conference announced their All-Conference selections and Matt Graef earned 2nd team honors.  Graef had a standout sophomore season leading the Blueboys in tackles in route to a 5-5 record.

Midwest Conference Announcement:

GRINNELL, Iowa – The Illinois College football team – fresh off its 30-27 overtime victory over Carroll University in the No. 2 matchup of the Midwest Conference Championship Weekend – put nine members on the All-MWC South Division teams on Wednesday. Dinari Ellis, Austin Ellsworth, Brady Huber, Kyle Nance, Brody Pogue, Meeko Reddick and Logan Uyetake were First Team selections, while Matt Graef and Dylan Schuler made it onto the Second Team.

On the second team for the Blueboys were the linebacker tandem of sophomore Matt Graef and senior Dylan Schuler. Graef led Illinois College with 78 tackles (47 solo) and had four tackles for loss and a pair of fumble recoveries.

“Matt has the potential to be an unbelievable player and I’m hoping that this is just the beginning for him,” said Head Coach Garrett Campbell. “He has the work ethic, athleticism and ability to do some great things here and be a leader for us in the years to come.

Illinois College wrapped up the 2015 season with a 5-5 record, including a 3-2 mark in the MWC South that tied for second and left the Blueboys with the No. 2 spot thanks to holding the tiebreaker against Cornell and Lake Forest. It was the seventh straight season under Coach Campbell that the Blueboys ended with a record of .500 or better.

Mammoth hosts Bishop tonight

Bishop Union travels to Mammoth

The annual Bronco-Huskie football match up kicks off tonight at 7pm.  Long time Bishop Union High School football coach Bill Egan will lead the Broncos onto Mammoth’s Gault/McClure field against first time head coach Bubby Greene.  Egan, in his 15th season as head coach, holds a 13-2 record against the Huskies while Greene leads his team in the rivalry game for the first time.  Egan led teams are 12-2 vs the Huskies in the regular season and 1-0 in the playoffs.  Tom Gault coached Huskie teams topped the Broncos in 2002, 35-0 and in 2007, 20-18.  The 2002 Broncos avenged their regular season loss with an inspired 2nd round CIF playoff win 61-14.  Greene, a Mammoth High School Graduate,  has played in the rivalry game and served as an assistant coach, but tonight is his first taste of the rivalry as the head man of Huskie football.

Tonight’s (Friday, September 11th) game kicks off at 7pm and will be broadcast live on 100.7 KIBS and streamed live here at kibskbov.com.  Rock Baker and Arnie Palu will have the call.

Mammoth enters the game with a 1-0 record winning their opening game back on Friday, August 28.  The Bubby Greene era opening with a 46-0 win over Frazier Mt.  Matthew Hornbeck led the Mammoth rushing attack with 121-yards on 15 carries.  Hornbeck, a junior, also led the huskies with 11 total tackles.  Mammoth enjoyed a bye following the Frazier Mt win.

The Broncos enter the rivalry game with a 0-2 record.  Bishop lost to Whittier Christian 21-16 in the opener back on August 28th and fell hard to Yerington last week 44-6.  Bishop is led by Oregon bound Hunter Kampmoyer.  The senior linebacker/tight-end is a four year varsity starter for Bishop Union High School.
