Bishop Union traveled to California City, Lone Pine hosted Mojave, Mammoth hit the road, and Big Pine tangled with Baker and Beatty this weekend.

The Broncos played High Desert League basketball at California City Friday night returning home with 3 wins.  This week Bishop Union will enjoy home-cookin’ hosting Fraizer Mt Tuesday and rival Kern Valley Friday.

Bishop Union improves to 1-1 in High Desert League play with the win at California City.  The Broncos opened a 25-3 first quarter lead and never looked back.  Dru Allen’s 22 points led all scorers.  Sophomore Moran West was called up to the varsity helping out with 3 points off the bench.

The Broncos girls improve to 2-0 in HDL play with another strong win.  The girls have a key game Friday hosting rival Kern Valley.  The Broncs figure to challenge Bishop Union for the HDL title.  KV girls are also unbeaten in HDL play.  Fridays girls varsity game tips off at 6pm.  BUHS has a home game Tuesday with Frazier Mt, 4:30 varsity girls start.

BUHS swamped by the Serpents

BUHS opens the Christmas Classic vs Mineral County

Bishop Union opened their 38th Annual Christmas Classic with a disappointing 53-47 loss.  Mineral County High school from Hawthorne Nevada used an amazing 19-point 4th quarter from Junior Andre Davis to complete their comeback victory.  Bishop Union held a 34-31 lead heading into the final quarter, but MCHS roared back thanks to Davis’s 19-point effort that included four, 3-point baskets and 5 of 6 shots from the free throw line.  Freshman Robert McFalls joined Davis with 19 points, including a clutch, 4th quarter 3-point play.  Bishop was led by sophomore Mike Molina with 13 points.  Dru Allen chipped in with 12 points, all from behind the 3-point arc.

In other action from Monday, Rio Hondo Prep clipped Mammoth 65-31 and Rio Hondo Prep topped Mineral County 62-54.

The Bishop Union Christmas classic continues on today (Tuesday, December 29th) with a trio of games.  Mammoth plays MCHS at 2:30, Bishop Union takes on Mammoth at 4pm, and Rio Hondo Prep squares off with Bishop Union in the night cap at 7pm.

Wednesday Schedule will include three games, the #1 seed and #4 seed will play at 9am.  The #2 and #3 seeds will square off at 10:30 with the winners playing for the championship at 1pm.  All varsity games are played in Bishop Union High’s Gus Klekas Gym.

Lone Pine Basketball is Rolling

Lone Pine High School hoops update

The Lone Pine High School boys basketball team notched win number 20 Wednesday night with a 65-43 victory over the Mammoth Huskies.  The win moves Lone Pine’s overall record to 20-2 and a perfect 11-0 in Desert Mountain League play.  Ryan Cappello continues his magical season with 25 points, 12 rebounds, 6 assists, and 6 blocks.  Garrett Sullivan also continues to stuff the stat columns with 19 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists, and three blocked shots.  Adrian Gonzalez added 8 points and 4 steals.  Bryce Scott chipped in with 6 points, Kishan Bhakta 3 points 4 rebounds, and Coltan Martin and Eddy Ivey each had 2 points.  Lone Pine picked up the win playing without injured center Brad Greene.  Coach Scott Kemp is hoping to have Greene back next week.  Lone Pine returns to action Friday hosting Boron.
The Mammoth Huskies were led by Mario Rios with 22 points and Christian Orrick added 6.

The Lone Pine varsity girls defeated Mammoth 38-23 Wednesday.  Individual statistics for Lone Pine:

Also arguably our worst night of free throw shooting… Would like to acknowledge the exceptional sportsmanship demonstrated by mammoth coaching staff and players.”

On Monday the Golden Eagle girls topped  Vasquez 39-24.
