Longest Night Service @ Methodist Church

Longest Night Service at Bishop First United Methodist Church

Sunday, December 21 at 7:00 pm in the Sanctuary.  On this longest night of the year, anyone in the eastern Sierra is invited to a simple time of Worship on Sunday, December 21 at 7 pm in the Sanctuary of Bishop First United Methodist Church.  Whether we are grieving a loss, struggling economically, overwhelmed with personal and family situations, it is good to remember that the first Christmas was difficult also and that the light of Christ “shines in the darkness.”  Perhaps we may feel very alone in the midst of all the Christmas celebrations. We need to know God’s presence with us during this season.
Bishop United Methodist Church is located at 205 N. Fowler – next to Bishop Union High School.
The name of this service comes from the season – December 21st  is actually the longest night of the year, with the most hours of darkness at the Winter Solstice.   But the name, “Longest Night”, also describes the feelings that a number of us have during this season.  In the long, dark winter nights, memories of past experiences and the pain of present loss and situations can become overwhelming.  For some, Christmas Day is the most difficult.  For others, it is Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve or the beginning of another year.  Join with us to hear scripture, offer prayers for healing and wholeness and sing music that acknowledges that God’s presence is for those who mourn, for those who grieve, for those who struggle, and that God’s Word comes to shine light into our darkness.  Everyone is welcome
