Ryan Cappello strikes out 19 Huskies

Lone Pine’s Ryan Cappello likes to pitch.  Asked this past Saturday on the sports round up if he prefers to start or serve as a reliever,  Cappello gave the perfect answer, “I just like to pitch, as long as I get on the mound I’m happy”.  On Tuesday afternoon Mammoth’s Whitmore field was Cappello’s Happy Place.  The senior right-hander struck out 19 Mammoth Huskies.   19 of the games 21 outs via strikeout, very impressive.  Ryan allowed just two walks and two hits pitching Lone Pine to a 8-1 victory.   The University of Nevada Reno bound senior wraps up his regular season today (Wednesday, May 11) hosting Silver Valley.

The Lone Pine Golden Eagles picked up key Desert Mountain League road wins Tuesday.  Lone Pine’s visit to Edwards Air Force Base ended with a 11-4 Baseball win and 9-6 softball victory.  Lone Pine’s busy week continues today (Wednesday, April 6th) with a trip to Bishop for match-ups with the Bronco Varsity.  The boys will play at BUHS and the girls will square off in the Bishop City Park, Field 2.  Both ball games are set for a 3:15 first pitch.

Lone Pine High School baseball and softball hit the road Monday for Desert Mountain League play with Desert Christian.  The Golden Eagles softball team won their match-up while the baseball team dropped their DML game.  Next up for Lone Pine will be home games with the Mammoth Huskies on Tuesday, March 22nd.

Coaches Comments, “Errors are our nemesis right now.  In a slump with errors at the wrong time.  Ryan Cappello threw first 4 innings allowing only 1 hit with 6 strikeouts but errors gave them 2 runs.  Garrett Sullivan threw last two innings with 8 errors, Desert Christian took advantage and took a lead.  We hit the ball just right to them.  I believe we are in for a good season.”  Mike Button

Lone Pine Baseball and softball opened Desert Mountain League play with big wins over Mojave.  Softball roughed up the mustangs 20-2 while the baseball team shutout Mojave 7-0.  Lone Pine softball was scheduled to play Immanuel Christian Thursday, but baseball coach and athletic director Michael Button indicates that the softball game with Immanuel has been cancelled, but will be rescheduled.

Lone Pine Softball falls to Savanna

Lone Pine season ends in CIF 1st round

The Lone Pine Golden Eagles softball season ends with a loss to the #1 seed Savanna high school.  While the season has just ended, Lone Pine Coach Liz Jones is looking ahead to 2016 with great optimism. The Golden Eagles graduate just one senior, outfielder Emma Howe.
Looking to lead the charge next season are several offensive stars.
Lacie Jones finished  first place in the Desert Mountain League with a overall batting average of .641.  Juliann Jones’ .510 average was 7th in league, and Jessianne Joiner was right behind her, finishing 8th in league with a .475 ave.  Katelyn Button ranked 13th with .405 ave. in league play.
Coach Liz Jones says, “We are already looking forward to next year.”

Lone Pine Softball wins Wildcard game

Lone Pine high school softball wins at Brentwood

The Lone Pine Golden Eagles softball team beat Brentwood 6-3 Tuesday in the CIF southern section division 6 wildcard round.  The win advances Lone Pine to the opening round Thursday.  The Golden Eagles will square off with #1 overall seed Savanna high school in Anaheim.

Lacie Jones pitched Lone Pine to the opening round road win.  Lacie Jones allowed just 4 hits, striking out 12.  Coach Liz Jones noted top defensive plays turned in by Kayla Noland at second base, Celia Ray at third, catcher Juliann Jones, Jessianne joiner at first base and Katelyn Button at shortstop.

Spring Playoff Update

Playoffs, we are talking about Playoffs

It’s spring sports playoff time. The CIF southern sections baseball and softball playoffs begin this week. The CIF central section postseason continues for golf and track for student athletes at Bishop Union High School.

Bishop Union high school senior Sean Mitton is playing today (May 19th) in the CIF Central section individual championships. Mitton is playing today at River Island Country Club in Porterville. Mitton was a part of the Broncos CIF championship team in 2014 and led the team to a runner up finish this year.

The Bishop Union 1600 meter boys relay team will travel to Clovis this Saturday (May 23rd) for the Central Section Maters meet. Joey Griego, Logan Stephenson, Carson Reid and Collin Batchelder will run Saturday night at Buchanan high school.

Lone Pine High schools softball team plays today (May 19th) in the Southern Section Division 6 wildcard round. Lone Pine travels to Brentwood today. The winner of today’s wildcard game travels to Anaheim on Thursday for the opening round of the playoffs. Waiting for the winner is #1 seed Savanna high school.

Lee Vining and Big Pine softball are in the Southern Section Division 7 playoffs. Lee Vining the #3 team in the Hi-Lo league travels to Lucerne Valley today for a wildcard game. A Lee Vining win would send them to University Prep in Victorville on Thursday. Big Pine #2 in the Hi-Lo league will travel to Pasadena on Thursday for their opening round game with St. Monica Academy.

Mammoth will make the long road trip to Fillmore on Friday in the CIF southern section division 6 baseball playoffs. Mammoth is an at-large selection from the Desert Mountain league. Fillmore won the Frontier league this season.

The Lee Vining baseball team opens play Thursday at Riverside Prep in the Southern Section Division 7 championships.  The Tigers finished as runners up in the Hi-Lo league.

Lone Pine High Takes Two From Trojans

The Golden Eagle Baseball and softball teams took two games from Silver Valley Wednesday.  Lone Pine picked up a win in baseball 3-0 while the softball team outlasted Silver Valley 10-8.  Lone Pine will continue Desert Mountain League play Friday (April 24th) hosting Mojave.

Lone Pine High School baseball and softball notched wins over Mammoth in Desert Mountain league action Monday.  Garrett Sullivan pitched and hit the baseball team to a solid 11-5 win while the softball team blanked Mammoth 13-0.

Lone Pine baseball and softball fall to Boron

The Golden Eagles struggled on the road Tuesday falling to the Boron Bobcats.  The softball team lost 14-0 and the baseball team came up short 5-1.  Lone Pine will be back on the road Thursday to Acton for a Desert Mountain League showdown with Vasquez.
