Lone Pine Baseball falls to Santa Paula

Lone Pine High School Baseball drops 2nd round CIF Game

by Arnie Palu
May 25, 2016

The highly decorated Lone Pine senior class wrapped up their high school careers Tuesday with a 3-0 loss to Santa Paula in the CIF Southern Section division 6 baseball championships.  Lone Pine senior right pitcher Ryan Cappello went the distance on the hill limiting the Cardinals to 3 runs, but the Golden Eagle bats were silenced.  Coach Mike Button says the Lone Pine nine had a case of the at-em’s, noting the Golden Eagles put the ball in play, they just simply found it hard to locate gaps in the Santa Paula defense.

Coach Button thanked his assistant coaches Joe Cappello and Lamont Dawson and score keepers Krista Sullivan and Alicia Brice.  Coach also wants to thank team Mom Malissa Cappello for her efforts along with all the parents and fans for their support.

Lone Pine finishes the season runners up in the Desert Mountain League with a DML record of 10-4.  Desert Mountain League Champion Desert Christian (Lancaster) advanced in the Division 6 tournament.  The Knights will now battle Crean Lutheran in the round of 8.

Santa Paula is now the lone public school remaining in the Division 6 bracket.  Santa Paula has a total enrollment of approximately 1,600 students.  Lone Pine currently has 93 students enrolled.
