The Arvin Bears down Bishop Union 6-0

The Bishop Union high school baseball team closed out the 2015 season with a loss in the CIF central section division 5 first round.  Arvin high schools Jose Salinas threw a complete game shut out allowing just 3 hits.  The Broncos managed just three singles, one walk and one hit-batsman vs. Arvin’s Junior pitcher.  The Broncos had only one runner advance to third base, senior Alex Sipes in the seventh inning.  Salinas was matched up with Bishop Junior Aaron Chinzi.  Chinzi pitched 4 innings allowing 5 runs on 7 hits striking out 3 bears.  The Bronco defense committed three first inning errors helping the bears open up a 3-0 lead.  Arvin added a run in the 3rd inning on a RBI single by Nick Flores.  The bears added an insurance run in the 4th on a Jorge Gomez solo homerun.  Chinzi gave way to senior Justin Hollowell in the 5th inning.  Hollowell allowed a single and walked two consecutive bears to load the bases.  Justin got out of the jam with a strikeout and an inning ending 1-2-3 double play.  Hollowell induced a come-backer from Jorge Gomez, fired to home for the first out, and catcher Colton Riesen completed the double play with a perfect throw to first basemen Brodie Maloney.  Arvin did break through against Hollowell in the 6th with an RBI off the bat of Javier Moreno.

Bronco Mathletes finish strong

After an eight month season that began in September and ended in April, the BUHS Varsity Mathletes finished their last meet of the year on April 29 and ended the year with a strong second place finish in a ten member league. Tehachapi won the league, followed by Bishop, and third place went to Rosamond.

Junior Jamie Shultz earned an individual fourth place finish, seniors Olivia Grah and Colton Riesen tied for 12th place, and junior David Chavez came in 15th. The Mathletes are coached by BUHS math teacher Mrs. DeeDee Buchholz who said, “This is a great group of kids. They work hard and try their best, and I am very proud of the overall team scores. Both Varsity and JV earned second place overall in the league. While doing an outstanding job academically, this team showed great character all season long. It is a ture pleasure to coach them.” The Mathletes Award Ceremony is on Tuesday, May 19 at 5:30 in the BUHS Auditorium.

Bishop drops heart-breaker at Rosamond

BUHS Baseball falls 2-1 in 8 inning dual

Junior pitcher Aaron Chinzi was great Tuesday, however Rosamond was just a bit better.  Chinzi threw a gem on a windy, cold day at Rosamond High School but took the loss 2-1.  Rosamond’s Leonard Grimes opened the 8th inning with a double and scored on the game winning single delivered by Tyler Herrick.  Prior to the back to back hits in the 8th, Chinzi had allowed just 4 Roadrunner hits, all singles.  Chinzi struck out 7 and walked just two batters.

Rosamond Senior Matt Lecomte matched Chinzi pitch for pitch.  Lecomte allowed just 4 hits, a double and triple to Colton Riesen and singles to Clyde McCoy and Jake Traynor.  Traynor walked twice scoring Bishop’s run in the top of the first on a Riesen RBI ground out.  Lecomte stuck out 13 Broncos.
