Bishop Union High School Golf wins 1st HDL meet

The Bishop Union High School Golf team has picked up right where they left off. The Broncos won the High Desert League title last year and started the 2016 campaign with a strong win at Rosamond. The HDL opened play at the 9-hole, par 35 Rancho Sierra Golf Course. Bishop was led by Freshman Troy Erickson who shot a 4 over par 74. The Broncos had 4 golfers turn in scores of 80 or under. Next up for the Broncos is a home HDL meet at Bishop Country Club Wednesday, March 9th. The Broncos golf team is coached by Ken Dutton.

Playoffs, we are talking about Playoffs
It’s spring sports playoff time. The CIF southern sections baseball and softball playoffs begin this week. The CIF central section postseason continues for golf and track for student athletes at Bishop Union High School.
Bishop Union high school senior Sean Mitton is playing today (May 19th) in the CIF Central section individual championships. Mitton is playing today at River Island Country Club in Porterville. Mitton was a part of the Broncos CIF championship team in 2014 and led the team to a runner up finish this year.
The Bishop Union 1600 meter boys relay team will travel to Clovis this Saturday (May 23rd) for the Central Section Maters meet. Joey Griego, Logan Stephenson, Carson Reid and Collin Batchelder will run Saturday night at Buchanan high school.
Lone Pine High schools softball team plays today (May 19th) in the Southern Section Division 6 wildcard round. Lone Pine travels to Brentwood today. The winner of today’s wildcard game travels to Anaheim on Thursday for the opening round of the playoffs. Waiting for the winner is #1 seed Savanna high school.
Lee Vining and Big Pine softball are in the Southern Section Division 7 playoffs. Lee Vining the #3 team in the Hi-Lo league travels to Lucerne Valley today for a wildcard game. A Lee Vining win would send them to University Prep in Victorville on Thursday. Big Pine #2 in the Hi-Lo league will travel to Pasadena on Thursday for their opening round game with St. Monica Academy.
Mammoth will make the long road trip to Fillmore on Friday in the CIF southern section division 6 baseball playoffs. Mammoth is an at-large selection from the Desert Mountain league. Fillmore won the Frontier league this season.
The Lee Vining baseball team opens play Thursday at Riverside Prep in the Southern Section Division 7 championships. The Tigers finished as runners up in the Hi-Lo league.

Bishop Union High School Golf team finishes 2nd
The Broncos golf team finished as runners up in the CIF central sections division 2 championship. Bishop Union finished just 10 strokes behind champion Bakersfield Christian. First year coach Ken Dutton indicates that Senior Sean Mitton will advance to the CIF individual championships firing a 75 Monday. Mitton’s 75 was good to place third, punching his ticket to individuals on May 19th. The CIF central section individuals will be played in Porterville.
The Broncos won the CIF Central Section division 3 championship in 2014, but did not have a chance to repeat at div. 3. The Broncos were bumped up to division 2 for this years post season. In addition to Sean Mitton, the team was also represented by Brian Jones, Nic Orrill, Gabi Cortez, Charllie Boling, and Ryan Kiddoo.
The Broncos team season draws to a close, a season that included a High Desert League Championship.

Bishop Union High School continues Golf Dominance
The Bishop Union High School golf team wrapped up an undefeated 2015 High Desert League season with a strong win Wednesday. The HDL finals were played at Rancho Sierra Golf Club near Rosamond. The field played the 9 hole course twice. Rosamond played host to the HDL finals with Bishop easily talking home the team victory. 2nd place California City finished more that 100 strokes behind the Broncos. Senior Sean Mitton fired the low round of the day, a three over par 73. Freshman Nic Orrill joined Mitton in the 70’s with a 79. Next up for the Broncos is a trip to Visalia to begin the CIF central section post season. The Broncos won the CIF central section championship in 2014.

Bishop Union high school golf dominance continues
The Bishop Union High School Golf team remains unbeaten in High Desert League play winning at this weeks meet at rival Kern Valley. The Broncos again easily out-shot their HDL competition. The low round was turned in by Sean Mitton who returned to action after missing last weeks meet due to illness.

Bishop Golfers Dominate
Top golfer Sean Mitton did not play Wednesday due to illness, but Bishop Union High School had no trouble at California City. With Mitton home sick, Freshman Nick Orrill picked up the slack leading Bishop to another High Desert League victory.

Bishop Bronco Golfers win at Burroughs
Coach Ken Dutton describes conditions Monday in Ridgecrest as “VERY windy”. That’s all caps, VERY windy at China Lake Golf Course. Working through the wind Bishop Union High School senior Sean Mitton shot a 7-over par 79. Mitton’s effort keyed a Bronco win over Burroughs High School. Bishop Union was 25 strokes better than Burroughs Monday. In addition to Mitton’s 79, the Broncos also carded 86’s from freshman Nick Orrill and Brian Jones. Gabi Cortez shot 93, Ryan Kiddoo 98 and Chet Shultz 108. Next up for the Bronco varsity golfers is a trip to California City for a High Desert League match. Bishop Union is unbeaten in HDL golf.
The Bishop Union High School JV Golf Team traveled to Round Mountain Nevada late last week playing in an 18 hole tournament. Coach Ken Dutton says, “Our JV Broncos did well. Leading the team with a 92 Ryan Kiddoo, 101 Chet Shultz, and the rest of the Bronco players Charlie Boling, Ros Cardenas, and Kevin Rossi. The JV did a Good Job.”

Bishop Union High School Golf wins again
The field enjoyed great conditions at Bishop County Club Wednesday as Bishop won another High Desert League golf meet. Bishop Union fired a 419 team score, more than 100 strokes better than second place California City. Senior Sean Mitton fired an even par 71. Mitton finished first overall, followed by teammates Nick Orrill (79) and Brian Jones (83). The Broncos now have a break in action for Easter break returning to high desert league play on April 15th at California City.

Bronco Golfers continue HDL dominance
Bishop Union High school golfers stay unbeaten in High Desert League play with a strong performance at Rosamond. 1st year head coach Ken Dutton’s team shot a 412 Wednesday at Rosamond’s home course, Rancho Sierra Golf Course. Golfers play the 9-hole course twice to complete their round.
Senior Sean Mitton shot a 5 over par 75. Freshman Nick Orrill fired a 79 and Sophomore Gabby Cortez finished third with a 85.
The Bronco JV also played a 9-hole match Wednesday with Chase Cortez (46), Garrett Tremayne (50) and Ros Cardenas (51) turning in the lowest rounds.
