Volleyball Splits a Pair at Rival Kern Valley

Bishop high school volleyball traveled to rival Kern Valley this past Tuesday (October 14th) earning a split in two games.
The varsity fell to KV in straight games with the JV winning in two.
The varsity fell to KV 25-17, 25-18 and 25-15. The loss evens the Bronco High Desert League record to 2-2 at the midway point of league play.
All teams are chasing 4-0 Frazier Mt. with Kern Valley ahead of the Broncos in the standings at 3-1.
California City is 1-3 and Rosamond is 0-4 in HDL play. Individual statistics for the Broncos include Sammy Powell with 5 kills and 2 aces, Cierra Rossi, Kiara Cox, and Carly Todd each had 4 kills. Staci Sonke delivered 3 aces and 16 assists and Gabi Cortez chipped in with 18 digs.
The Bronco JV did their part to spoil homecoming at KV with a straight games win, 25-18 and 26-24. Rebekah Riesen had 2 aces, 2 kills. Edi Lou Arrowood had 2 aces, Haley Hersley served up 3 aces and 2 kills. Both Ashley Worley and Topah Scherer had 4 kills.
The Broncos start the second half to High Desert League play Thursday, October 16th hosting Rosamond. JV starts at 4pm with the varsity game to follow.

Another Win for Varsity Girls’ Volleyball

Broncos Spike Cal City October 7th

The Bishop Bronco Varsity Volleyball team improves to 2-0 in high desert league play with a strong win over California City. The Broncos swept the visiting Ravens 25-19, 25-12, 25-22.

Individual statistics for the Broncos include Naya McCoy with 4 kills and 6 digs. Cierra Rossi had 7 kills and 9 digs. Sammy Powell had a team high 12 kills along with 10 digs.
Sophomore Kiara Cox celebrated her sweet 16 birthday with 5 kills.

Senior Staci Sonke stuffed the stat columns with 7 aces, 5 kills, 26 assists, 10 digs. Gabi Cortez added 13 digs with Maria Jimenez chipping in with 2 aces and 11 digs.
The Bishop JV won in straight games, 25-11, 25-21. Edi Lou Arrowood helped out with 3 kills. Ashley Worley had 2 aces and 6 kills. Topah Scherer had 2 aces and 3 assists with Kassidie Duckey logging a team high – 4 kills with 5 assists.
Bishop Volleyball will travel to Frazier Mt. Thursday, October 9th, and stay on the road Tuesday, October 14th at rival Kern Valley.
Bishop’s next home volleyball game will be on Thursday October 16th when they host Rosamond.

The City of Bishop Community Services Department would like to congratulate the 2014 D-league softball champions the Reds.

The Reds had a season record of 10-0, sweeping through the playoffs and the championship game.

Around the country, it’s all starting right now.

TIME TO DO IT LIKE THE PROS: Sunday, August 10th, we’re preparing our Junior Golfers with the SAME FORMAT as the National Competition.


Preparing you Here: Local, Sub-Regional, and Regional Qualifying is conducted in all 50 states. The Championship Final will be held on April 5, 2015 at Augusta National. Check for all Qualifying locations.

Junior golfers will have the opportunity to participate at 256 local qualifiers around the country throughout the summer of 2014.

Registration is $5. All proceeds go to the Eastern Sierra Junior Golf Association. Big thanks to Joe at the Bishop Country Club for his work with the talented young golfers of this program! It starts, here.


1. Each participant will compete in all three skills (Drive, Chip, and Putt).

2. Participants will accumulate points in each skill. The participant with the highest number of accumulated points will be declared the Overall Champion of his or her age category. First, second, and third place winners of each individual skill will also be recognized.

3. In the case of tie in the overall score, the putting rank will serve as the tiebreaker.

* All scoring will be based on a 25-point-per-shot basis, with each participant taking three shots per skill. Each participant will accumulate points per shot in all three skills (maximum of 75 points per skill = 25 points per shot x 3). The overall champion in each age category will be determined by the participant with the most points accumulated between all three skills (maximum of 225 points – 75 points per skill x 3).


Prizes will be awarded in each Age Bracket.

FOUR AGE CATEGORIES: 7-9, 10-11, 12-13, 14-15

Participants will be grouped based on their age as of the championship final on Sunday, April 5, 2015. Participants must be at least 7 years of age on Sunday, April 5, 2015 and may not be older than 15 years of age on Sunday, April 5, 2015.

The Bishop Broncos baseball team lost Tuesday’s away playoff game against Bakersfield Christian by a score of 6-1.This game was part of the 2014 CIF Central Section Baseball Playoff Bracket – Division IV.
