With the partial re-opening of the Inyo National Forest on Saturday, October 3, and with the lakes being closed for almost a month, fishing was finally what it should have been for the canceled April opener.
Almost every opened lake produced good sized trout, from boat or shoreline. One hot spot was Silver Lake on the June Lake Loop.
Jim McCoy, of Ventura, weighed-in four fatties – 5#3oz, 5#2oz, 5#1 oz, 4#7oz. Rob Thompkins, of San Luis Obispo landed a nice 5#’er. Sonya Hernandez of Escondido/Bishop (our new account executive at KIBS/KBOV), only her 3rd line dropped in Eastern Sierra lakes, landed a 5#4oz, followed by a 6#1oz. All three anglers caught their catch from shore using Gulp Garlic Pinch Worms.
Because the spot they caught their fish is our new News and Sports Director Ken Harrison’s favorite and most productive fishing spot, he will not disclose where on Silver Lake they were caught, but it was from inside the Silver Lake campground.
Unfortunately when the smoke from local fires started descending over Carson Peak around 3 p.m., down into the canyon, the bite stopped completely.
