INTERNATIONAL WALK TO SCHOOL DAY
Wednesday is International Walk to School Day. Bishop Elementary School, Toiyabe Indian Health Project, and Bishop Paiute Tribe will join schools from around the world to celebrate International walk to school day. As many as 1700 students in the valley will be walking to school along with parents, teachers, and community leaders.
The event will begin at 7:20 a.m. with groups walking from a variety of “park and walk” locations. Bishop Elementary has officially designated safe routes to school for their students, so all event meeting locations are connected to those routes.
Bishop Paiute Reservation will be walking the Cosa Path to school. Students and their parents are urged to meet at the cultural center at 7:15 a.m. Toiyabe, OVCDC, and the Bishop Indian Education Center will be providing breakfast snacks for all participants. Big Pine School will also have an all school walking event during school hours.
If you would like to volunteer for the events or you would like information, call Serena or Katie at Toiyabe Indian Health Project at 873-8857, Karen Kong at 873-3262 ext. 2112, or Ana for Big Pine at 938-2222.
