Bishop Police Department was involved in a chase on Friday morning at approximately 7:14 a.m., when a citizen reported a vehicle fleeing southbound on Sunland Dr. after crashing into a fence on Home Street.
Law enforcement officers quickly located the suspect vehicle and attempted a traffic stop. The unidentified suspect driver sped up with officers pursuing. A tactical intervention was attempted, which ended the pursuit. Officers contacted the solo occupant who was then identified as Dillon Smith, who showed the objective signs of drug intoxication. Marijuana and a loaded handgun were found inside the car.
Smith was arrested and transported to the hospital for a blood sample and medical clearance. He later was booked into the Inyo County Jail on the following charges:

2800.1(a) CVC – failure to yeild
23152(e) CVC – DUI
25850(a) PC – loaded firearm in vehicle
