Monday Crash on 395 south of Bishop injures 4

A two vehicle traffic collision sent four to Bishop’s Northern Inyo Hospital Monday. The collision occurred just prior to 12 noon Monday on highway 395 at Keough’s Hot Springs road.
The California Highway Patrol collision report indicates that 35-year old Big Pine resident Lauren Burek was driving a 1998 Lexus ES300 northbound on highway 395 at Keough’s Hot Springs road. The second vehicle involved was driven by 30-year old Jennifer Berglund of Portola. Two boys, age seven and two were passengers in Berglund’s 2001 Toyota. According to the CHP collision report, “Berglund stated that she observed an animal run onto the roadway in front of her vehicle. She began to slow her vehicle to avoid the animal. Burek failed to see Berglund slowing ahead of her and the fount of her Lexus struck the rear of the Toyota.”
Berglund and the two passengers were transported to Bishop’s Northern Inyo Hospital with minor to moderate injuries.
Lauren Burek, according to the report, “Was placed under arrest for violation of section 23152 of the vehicle code, driving under the influence of alcohol. Burek was treated for her injuries (moderate) at Northern Inyo Hospital.”
The California Highway Patrol notes that anyone who witnessed the collision or observed either of the two involved vehicles just prior to the collision please call the Bishop CHP office.
