Last Saturday, freshman Mark Mayhugh of the Bishop Bronco Wrestling team competed in a 16-man individual tournament at Millikan High School in Long Beach.

Wrestling at 108 lbs, Mark won 4 of his 5 matches, earning a third place medal. Mark won his first match with a major decision, with a score of 12-2. His second round match – his only loss for the day – was to the eventual tournament champion. The match was high scoring and “could have gone either way” according to head coach Shaun Joseph. Mark came storming back in the consolation bracket on his way to a third place finish.

Coach Joseph said, “Mark really stepped it up a notch when it counted. This was his toughest competition of the year and it was his best performance.”

The Bronco with the best record this season is freshman Mark Mayhugh with a record of 15-8 with 9 wins by pin.

The Broncos next action will be High Desert League Finals at Kern Valley on February 11th. Wrestlers will have to place 1st or 2nd to go on to CIF.
