Bishop Union and Big Pine Girls Basketball Seasons Close

A pair of league champion girls basketball teams had their seasons wrap up Wednesday night. High Desert League Champion Bishop Union lost a CIF Central Section opening round game at McFarland and Hi-Lo League Champ Big Pine lost in the CIF Southern Section Quarterfinals.

The Broncos lost in the opening round of the CIF Central Section Division 4 championships Wednesday night. #7 seed McFarland knocking the Broncos out 58-36. Five Seniors played their final game for the Broncos. Maria Jimenez, Sabrina Barlow, Cienna Martinez, Sophia Thomas, and Rosalind Cardenas. Coaches Tara Auld and Alice Bruck led the Broncos to a perfect 8-0 High Desert League record in their first years at the helm.
Maria Jiminez: 5 points, 13 rebounds, 1 assists, 2 steals, 3 blocks.
Topah Scherer: 4 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal.
Sabrina Barlow: 6 points, 11rebounds, 1 assist,
Cienna Martinez: 6 points, 1 assist.
Little Eva Lent: 11 points, 10 rebounds, 1 assist.
Drew Dondero: 4 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal.
“It was a great season and I saw so much improvement throughout; individual skills, discipline and the way this team worked together was truly an inspiration to all. I am proud of my team and it was truly an honor to coach these girls this season!”

Big Pine traveled to #1 seed Price in the CIF Southern Section Division 6 championships Wednesday. Big Pine put up a good fight, but the top ranked Price team advances to the Division 6 final four with a 84-30 win. It has been an impressive playoff run for Price. The Knights beat La Verne Lutheran in the first round 100-17 and Cornerstone Christian Wildomar 95-12 in the second round.
Big Pine will return a majority of their team next season. Big Pine was a perfect 8-0 in Hi-Lo League play. Big Pine is coached by Bob Church.
