Nevada Legal Services to provide information to Tonopah residents on options for disputing or discharging medical debt.
Nevada Legal Services will be hosting a presentation called “Medical Debt: Learn Your Options” from 5:30 pm to 7:00pm on Wednesday, March 2, 2016, at the Tonopah Convention Center in Tonopah, Nevada. This presentation is designed to help people with medical debt to understand their options for contesting or discharging medical debts.
The presentation will include overviews of how to dispute medical debt before and after a lawsuit, illegal debt collection tactics and how to combat them, and the pros and cons of filing for bankruptcy. Nevada Legal Services is hosting this event in response to reports
from concerned Tonopah residents who have received bills for medical treatment from the now defunct Nye County Regional Medical Center. “People are concerned that they don’t actually owe this money,” said Kelly Werth, the directing attorney of Nevada Legal Services’ statewide consumer advocacy program “but they don’t know how to dispute it now that the hospital is out of business. We want to let people know that even if they have medical debts that seem overwhelming, there is a path forward.”
The presentation is open to the public. Although Nevada Legal Services will not be providing advice on individual cases at the presentation, there will be intake forms available for individuals who are interested in obtaining advice or representation from Nevada Legal Services.
