Rio Hondo Prep beats Bishop Union in the Championship Game

Rio Hondo Prep head coach Ken Drain leads the Kares to the Bishop Union High School Christmas Classic championship.
The Rio Hondo Prep Kares finished off a perfect tournament Wednesday afternoon with a solid win, 57-42 over host Bishop Union. The Kares used a balanced scoring attack opening up a 33-27 halftime lead. 6-10 Sampson Sly did the dirty work in the paint leading the Kares with 15 points. Guards Victor Tsogt (12 points) and Dominic Chico (12 points) provided sharp ball handling skills and hit clutch outside shots. Bishop Union was paced by junior Sean Brown. Brown scored a game high 17 points. Bishop Union sophomore Mike Molina added 10 points.
Bishop Union played Rio Hondo Tuesday night falling by just one point, but in Wednesday’s championship game the Kares left no doubt. Rio Hondo defeated Mammoth to advance to the final while Bishop Union avenged an opening day loss to Mineral County High School to reach the championship game.
Bishop Union has just one non-league game before opening High Desert League play on Friday January 15th. The Broncos will go to Lee Vining on Tuesday, January 5th to take on the Tigers. HDL play starts on Friday, January 15th with a home match up with defending HDL champs Rosamond. The Bishop Union High School JV team defeated Immanuel Christian in the JV championship game.
