Free Equine Clinics at Mule Days

BISHOP MULE DAYS CELEBRATION
FREE TO THE PUBLIC EQUINE CLINICS

This year’s Bishop Mule Days will include something new.   They are excited to present several very accomplished equine experts to provide clinics, packing demonstrations and educational information on horse trailer safety and licensing.

Starting on Tuesday May 19 at 10:00 am and 1:00 pm is Connie Lara of CR Mules in Flagstaff AZ. Known for their Youth, World and National Championships, Connie will be teaching the INS AND OUTS OF A WINNING TRAIL CLASS RUN. Mornings will focus on Training and warm up exercises. The afternoon Class will be How – To’s for specific trail obstacles.

Wednesday, May 20th at 9:00 am and 1:00 pm is Jennifer Bailey from Wild Bunch Horse and Mule Co. of Alexander Ar. The Bailey Family training methods are centered in natural horsemanship and are highlighted in their clinics. Jennifer’s topic is CONFEDENCE: THE KEY TO A SUCCISSFUL RIDE. The Baileys will accept problem scenarios prior to clinic start times and welcome questions during their clinics. The AM class will focus on Arena work / Groundwork Instruction and the PM class will feature Saddle Time Demonstrations.

Thursday May 21 the line up will begin at 9:00 am and will be repeated on Sunday at 4:00 pm with JoDe Collins and “THOSE AMAZING DONKEYS.” JoDe has been a donkey enthusiast for the better part of 40 years. She owns, trains, breeds, competes but most of all, adores donkeys. She will be open to topic request and will touch on many training techniques that will encourage a content, willing and obedient working donkey.

Thursday afternoon, May 21 AT 12:30 PM will feature CHP officer Lou Moore Jacobsen on THE POWER OF PROPER POSITION where she will discuss proper riding positions for Hunt Seat, Jumping, and Western riding and problems that arise from improper position. Lou has been training mules and horses for 40 years and continues to show mules as well as three day event horses. Lou is a Mule Days Hall of Fame inductee as is her Mule, Empress Josephine.

On Friday May 22 the clinics will focus on Packing topics at:
9:00 AM PACKING LUMBER POLES ON A SAWBUCK& DECKER SADDLES.

10:00 AM PACKING WITH SLAMON RIVER PACK SADDLE.

11:00 AM PACKING FOR KIDS.

2:00 to 4:00 PM PACKING CLINIC DEMO with NON PRO AMA PACKING CHAMPION, PHILIP EASLEY.  In his packing demo, Philip will be going over handling of mules and horses as related to packing, how to break them to packing, what equipment is needed, and how to do this safely. He will go over the three most commonly used hitches, the Box Hitch, the Walker Hitch and the Diamond Hitch. He will then go into how to string mules together if you are packing more than one. Some tips on packing and balancing loads and what is needed for a simple one weekend or overnight trip into the back country.

CHP: COMMERCAL LICENSING and HORSE TRAILER SAFETY
Discussion includes Rules of the Road when hauling horses and mules and Commercial Drivers Licenses as they pertain to hauling horses and mules. Officer Mural McKenzie has been a California Highway Patrol Officer since 1989. Mural is an avid equestrian. She is a former member of the California State Mounted United Cal Expo Police Mounted and California Highway Patrol Mounted Unit to name a few. Officer McKenzie has spoken about Commercial Licensing and Horse trailer safety to horse enthusiasts all over the state.

Thursday Friday and Saturday at the East Arena 1, at 5:00 pm a special demonstration of Cowboy Dressage will be presented by Eitan Beth – Halachmy. He is a world recognized Cowboy Dressage teacher, attending the 2006 world Equestrian Games in Aachem Germany & 2010 in Lexington Kentucky. Eitan will be demonstrating Cowboy Dressage, focusing on Lightness, Balance and Cadence and Carriage.
