Bishop Union High School Girls Basketball crushes KV
A very physical game favored the tough Bronco girls Wednesday night as they beat up rival Kern Valley 52-30 wrapping up a perfect 8-0 league record. Bishop was much more comfortable in the “no blood, no foul” game. The Broncos used a physical defensive effort opening a 13-5 lead at the close of the first quarter. Junior Sabrina Barlow keyed the defensive effort shutting down Kern Valley’s top player Rebecca Gallis. Barlow’s tough play frustrated Gallis limiting her to 11 points. Gallis, daughter of head coach Bill Gallis, entered the game averaging 27 points per game. Barlow was the defensive star on senior night, while senior Tamia Shoshone padded her MVP resume with yet another double double. Shoshone, daughter of head coach Rebecca Andreas, scored a game high 18 points and pulled down 12 rebounds. Bishop will enter the CIF central section playoffs at the #1 team out of the High Desert League. The bracket will be posted Saturday.

Bishop built a 12-6 lead midway through the 1st quarter, but Kern Valley’s tight defense would limit Bishop to just 2 field goals the remainder of the half. Kern Valley outscored Bishop 20-7 in the second quarter building a 31-19 halftime lead. KV would maintain a very comfortable lead in the second half winning 56-35. Bishop finishes with a 2-6 HDL record and 13-15 overall record eliminating them from the post season. Had Bishop beat KV, the Broncos would have hit the required .500 record required to submit a petition for postseason play. The broncos honored their 5 seniors prior to the game. River Mallory, Ryan Lent, Jake Traynor, Thomas Montoya and Ty Tucker all played their final games Wednesday night. Sean Brown and Ryan Lent were the standouts for the Broncos playing with great energy on a night where the Broncos struggled overall.
Sean Brown 13, Thomas Montoya 9, Ryan Lent 6, River Mallory 4, Brandon Forrest 3.
The JV boys capped a 16-0 season with a 30-23 win over rival Kern Valley. Bishop led 28-14 at the start of the 4th quarter and for a second straight game scored just two fourth quarter points. The Broncos played just enough defense to hold on for the win. Congratulations to Coach Gordon Moose and assistant Chris Eldridge on their perfect season.
