BUHS 21 ACA 14

Broncos take down the Eagles

Bishop Union Improves to 2-2. Written by Arnie Palu

Bishop Union High School’s varsity football team used a tremendous defensive effort topping Arrowhead Christian Academy 21-14 Friday night.  The Broncos now enter their bye week with a skip in their step after taking down a team that beat them a year ago.  Bishop Union will now become road warriors coming out of their bye week with four straight road games.  Upcoming trips include Paraclete, Rosamond, Sierra Canyon and California City.  Bishop Union wraps up the regular season with back to back home games against Frazier Mt and rival Kern Valley.

Friday Recap
Arrowhead Christian opened Friday nights game with a defensive score.  ACA’s Tyler Mattson picked up a Bronco fumble and ran 24-yards for a touchdown.  Bishop Union answered back with a 65-yard scoring drive highlighted by a Ryan Graves to Hunter Kampmoyer pass covering 43-yards.  Mike Molina finished the drive with a 2-yard touchdown run.

Late in the first quarter the Broncos defense would have a chance to match the ACA defensive score.  Bishop Union’s defense would force a fumble in the endzone and Angel Santana would fall on the ball giving the Broncos a 14-7 lead.

The game would settle into a defensive struggle with the score holding until midway through the 4th quarter when Bishop Junior Sean Brown took a reverse in from 29-yards out.  ACA would answer the Bronco score with a 68-yard scoring drive capped by a Joesph Yarber 7-yard run.  The ACA score came with 4:22 left on the 4th quarter clock.

The Bronco defense would have to make one more stop ending the game with Mike Molina sacking the ACA quarterback on 4th and long.  The Bronco defense was outstanding throughout the night keeping ACA from establishing any type of offensive momentum.  Izaak Morgenstein, Austin Jones, and Moran West all intercepted passes.  The Bronco defensive line, especially Ryan Rennie and Anthony Miller provided pressure throughout the game.

The Bronco Varsity improve to 2-2 with a Bye this week.  Bishop Union will then hit the road Friday, October 2nd for a non-league match up with Paraclete.  The game will be broadcast live on AM 1230 KBOV and streamed live here at kibskbov.com.
