Bishop Broncos Varsity Football Recap

The Broncos battled for all 48 minutes but fell short in their upset bid of powerful Sierra Canyon.
The Trailblazers held off the upset minded Broncos 20-15. Bishop slides to 4-3 on the season and will return to High Desert League play this Friday hosting California City for homecoming.
The game will be broadcast live on AM 1230 KBOV, and online at KIBSKBOV.com.
Bishop’s opening drive Friday night started at the Trailblazers 30 yard line after a 55 yard kickoff return by senior Clyde McCoy. Bishop would drive deep into Trailblazer’s territory before Jarod Dossy connected on a 25-yard field goal.
Sierra Canyon countered with an 80-yard scoring drive capped by a Kaiser Butler 25-yard touchdown. After quick starts, both offensive units would struggle for remainder of the half. Senior linebacker J.J. Cammarata made a pair of tackles for loss stalling drives and Junior Defensive end Hunter Kampmoyer sniffed out a screen pass, making a tremendous interception – stalling another Sierra Canyon drive.
The scoring drought would end with 2 minutes left in the 3rd quarter when SC’s Kaiser Butler rambled in from 2-yards out putting Sierra Canyon up 14-3. Bishop came right back with a 73-yard drive capped by J.J. Cammarata 4-yard touchdown run. The point after was missed, putting the score at 14-9.
Sierra Canyon appeared to put the game away with a touchdown pass from quarterback Kohl Hollinquest to Ryan Rogero. The scoring strike came with just 1:38 to play. The Broncos hit a big play to stay alive with quarterback Ryan Graves connecting with Hunter Kampmoyer on a 64-yard touchdown with less than a minute to play. The Broncos attempted an onside kick, but an illegal touching penalty gave the ball to the trailblazers. A pair of Sierra Canyon kneel downs allowed the trailblazers to escape with the win.
