FATAL MOTORCYCLE COLLISION IN SOUTHERN INYO
On Sunday, May 7, at approximately 10:50 a.m., California Highway Patrol (CHP) received a call of a motorcycle collision with an ambulance responding southbound on Panamint Valley Road one mile south of SR 190.
Karig McCloskey, age 52, of Thousand Oaks was riding a motorcycle southbound at approximately 70 mph, and Kenneth Wheeler, age 47, of Sylmar was riding a motorcycle directly behind him when Wheeler moved over into the northbound lane to pass McCloskey. For reasons unknown, McCloskey drifted into the northbound lane just as Wheeler was passing him, the two motorcycles collided ejecting both riders from their vehicles.
McCCloskey sustained a major leg injury and later succumbed to his injuries on the scene. Wheeler was transported via ambulance to Ridgecrest Regional with moderate injuries. Chp is continuing to investigate the incident.
