High Desert League leadership met Monday at Kern Valley High School voting to expand the league. HDL officials voted to accept both Boron and Desert High Schools. The timeline for the Bobcats and Scorpions to officially enter the HDL will depend on CIF approval. Both schools would be leaving the Desert Mountain League.
For Desert High School (Edwards Air Force Base) the vote Monday allows the Scorpions to re-enter the High Desert League. Desert abandoned the HDL when the league made the move to the CIF-Central Section almost 3 years ago.
The Boron Bobcats and Bishop Union Broncos were long time rivals decades ago in the now defunct Desert-Inyo League.
The potential moves weaken the Desert Mountain League which is looking at losing three schools. Silver Valley (Yermo) is also opting out of the DML. Lone Pine athletic director Mike Button is confirming that Silver Valley is joining the De Anza League.
Pending CIF approval the new High Desert League would include:
- Bishop Union
- Kern Valley (Lake Isabella)
- Frazier Mt (Lebec)
- California City
- Desert (Edwards AFB)
The Desert Mountain League would include:
- Lone Pine
- Vasquez (Acton)
- Desert Christian (Lancaster)
