Bishop resident Rebecca Bragdon began serving her 180 day jail sentence in Independence this week. Bragdon was sentenced in late November. The former employee of the tri-county fairgrounds pled guilty this past August to a felony charge of theft of public money. According to the Inyo county district attorney’s office the the charges originated from the theft of cash and the unauthorized use of the fairgrounds gas card. The total amount stolen was just over 24 thousand dollars.
In addition to 180 days in county jail, Bragdon must pay restitution to the tri-county fairgrounds and also was ordered to pay the fairgrounds for the forensic accountant that was used to determine the total amount stolen. Bragdon will also be placed on 5-years of probation and has been ordered to complete 200 hours of community service.
Dana Crom handled the case for the Inyo County district attorneys office.
The California Highway Patrol aided in the investigation.
