JV are HDL champs

The JV wrapped up their season with a hard fought 17-7 win over rival Kern Valley. With the Victory the Junior Varsity claim the High Desert League Championship.
Sophomore captains Joe Mayhugh, Izaak Morgenstein, and Noah Connor-Becket provided key leadership in the Bronco victory. Quarterback Izaak Morgenstein connected with freshman Trace Sapp on a 10-yard scoring strike to put the Broncos on top. The first quarter score was set up by a botched punt by Kern Valley. Joe Mayhugh hit the point after putting the broncos up 7-0. Kern Valley respond with a scoring drive to tie the game at 7-7.
Freshman Hunter Waasdorp picked off a Kern Valley pass setting up the next Bronco 1st half score. Joe Mayhugh found the endzone from 5-yards out to put Bishop back on top at 14-7.
The second half settled into a hard hitting defensive battle. The staunch Bronco defense forced a take away with freshman Brodie Maloney intercepting a KV pass. The offense then took over on the game clinching drive. The offensive line led by Connor-Becket paved the way for runs by Mayhugh and Mike Molina. Joining Connor-Becket on the line include fellow tackle Colton Oney, guards Sam Moose and Ed Pipper and center Alex Romero. The drive stalled inside the KV 10-yard line, where Joe Mayhugh drilled a field goal giving the Broncos a comfortable lead.
On the ensuing kick off freshman Moran West put a punishing hit on the Kern Valley returner forcing the Broncs to navigate a long field. The Bishop defense forced a turnover on downs sealing the win and the HDL championship.
